Πρόσκληση προς το σύλλογο: 10-18 Οκτωβρίου 2009 Πανευρωπαϊκή εβδομάδα καρχαρία!

Αγαπημένοι φίλοι/ες, συνδύτες/τριες,

Η εβδομάδα 10-18 Οκτωβρίου 2009 έχει οριστεί ως Πανευρωπαϊκή εβδομάδα για τη προστασία του καρχαρία.
Σε πάρα πολλές ευρωπαϊκές χώρες θα οργανωθούν εκδηλώσεις για την ενημέρωση και την ευαισθητοποίηση του κόσμου
σχετικά με τον κίνδυνο εξαφάνισης που αντιμετωπίζουν οι πληθυσμοί καρχαρία με έμφαση στη συγκέντρωση υπογραφών για τη παύση της αλίευσης του καρχαρία για τα πτερύγιά του.
Θα διοργανωθούν επίσης ομιλίες, προβολές φιλμ και ντοκυμαντέρ, διανομή φυλλαδίων, εκθέσεις υποβρύχιας φωτογραφίας, παιδική ζωγραφική και κατασκευές με το αντίστοιχο θέμα και ότι άλλο μπορείτε να σκεφτείτε πάντα με δημιουργική και θετική διάθεση.

Καλώ τον αδελφό σύλλογο ΤΗΘΥΣ να συμμετάσχει σε αυτές τις εκδηλώσεις και να οργανώσει αντίστοιχες δράσεις!
Εμείς οι εθελοντές από τα Βόρεια το θεωρούμε τιμή να συνδιοργανώσουμε ταυτόχρονες εκδηλώσεις και να συντονιστούμε σε ομαδική εργασία!!

Petition - European Shark Week 2009

This years European Shark Week 2009 will be held from October 10-18 and this year’s motto is:
Predator turned prey
Turning the Tide for Sharks

Most European shark populations are declining from overfishing. One-third are threatened with extinction. The EU ban on “finning” - slicing off a shark’s fins and discarding the body at sea - is among the world’s weakest.

Hope lies with the new Shark Plan, adopted by the European Commission thanks in large part to support from many of you. The Plan sets the stage for vast improvements in EU shark policies, including the finning ban. Its success depends on collaboration and action by EU Fisheries Ministers and the European Commission. These fishery managers need encouragement from the European public to follow through on the Plan’s initiatives and truly safeguard sharks.

Demonstrate your support for improved European shark conservation by submitting a comment on-line. Virtual comments and signatures collected on the ground will be presented to the European Commission.

Thanks to aquariums, dive clubs and conservation organisations, European Shark Week 2008 saw more than 200 activities and the collection of more than 100,000 signatures on a Shark Plan petition for EU Fisheries Ministers. The Ministers have since issued a strong response that highlights the plight of sharks and calls for prompt strengthening of the EU finning ban. Indeed, the Ministers’ words reflect the concerns of a growing number of EU citizens expressed through European Shark Week.

This year, we need your help to make an even bigger splash!

Help raise the profile of sharks and your organisation by being part of European Shark Week.

This year, we’ll go back to governments for follow-up action under the Shark Plan, most importantly, improvements to the finning ban and quotas of zero for especially threatened shark species.
