"Aphrodite" the Cyprus Experience Competition
Larnaka, Cyprus June 1-6, 2009


Aphrodite, goddess of romance and passion, of fashion, beauty and art, has captivated poets and painters for centuries. Known for her numerous affairs of the heart, both playful and sophisticated, stories of Aphrodite make our world a livelier place. This is the inspiration for "Aphrodite", the Cyprus Experience competition - making the diving world a livelier place by combining diving with hi tech, photography and extreme sports, tourism, conservation and even new categories for beginners and video clip, produced during the event in Cyprus.

The "Aphrodite" Underwater Photography Competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers, shooting with film or digital cameras.

Selected categories are open to competitors such as:

1. Best 5 Images - the Zenobia
2. Best Singular entry - live at the Zenobia
3. Best 5 Images - Environmental Conservation Advertising
Campaign
4. Best 5 fashion and nudes images
5. The Amateur's Category
6. Cyprus Video Clip Category

About "Aphrodite" the Cyprus Experience Competition

"Aphrodite" 2009 is produced by David Pilosof, renowned underwater photographer and the producer of Epson Red Sea competition.
"The Cyprus Tourism Organization rose to the challenge and allows us to run this prestigious competition where underwater photographers have the chance to win cash prizes. I am proud to invite you all to Cyprus, to take part in the competition and perhaps win the jackpot”, says Pilosof.

Remember: we'll meet on Saturday night June 6, 2009 20:30 at Larnaka promenade. The winners of the competition will go back home with checks in the amount of 20,000 euro, 3 weeks diving trip to Papua New Guinea including air fare Singapore/Papua New Guinea/Singapore, Subal housing, BS Kinetics housing and other valuable prizes.

Hosting Hotel & Accommodations
The Competition’s main events will take place at Larnaka City and the production team will be based in Livadhiotis City Hotel, Larnaka.

Σωστή κίνηση από την άποψη τη διαφήμισης της Κύπρου και του Ζηνοβία αν και τέτοια events (π.χ. με μηδενική συμμετοχή φωτογραφιών portfolio και χωρίς καθόλου επεξεργασία) δεν μου θυμίζουν φωτογραφικό διαγωνισμό αλλά σαφάρι


Ειδικά κάποιοι όροι όπως οι παρακάτω:

...και να μη μιλήσουμε γι αυτό εδώ που βγάζει προχειρότητα και μάλλον είναι copy-paste από άλλο διαγωνισμό:

* No touching or moving animals to “better” backgrounds.

The Fashion & Nudity Category
In memory of Mike Portelly

Mike Portelly, one of the most talented and famous creators in the underwater photography community, passed away about a year ago, leaving many of his worshippers still with a taste for more. David Pilosof, publisher of the “Yam” magazine, creator of the Aphrodite Cyprus Experience competition and a close friend of Portelly’s, felt that his name should be perpetuated, positive that his work will serve as a great source of inspiration for young photographers and creators.
“Portelly’s photograph was the one to appear on the first “Yam” magazine cover, 24 years ago”, says Pilosof. “It was only natural that on the upcoming Aphrodite Cyprus Experience Competition we will create a category to perpetuate his name and wonderful art”.
“Many photographers, including myself, were very much inspired by Portelly’s work throughout the years and I have no doubt that wherever he is watching us from, he will be delighted to see many new and young photographers competing in a category named after him”, says Pilosof.
And so, Pilosof decided to announce the “Fashion & Nudity” category in memory of Mike Portelly on the Aphrodite Cyprus Experience competition, as fashion and nudity were two aspects very much involved in Portelly’s photographs.
The category consists of 5 best underwater fashion images, while at least one of them has to feature elements of nudity. The winner will be granted with no less than 4000 Euro in cash and a three weeks diving trip to Papua New Guinea , including airfare , a prize worth $20,000 all together.
Looking to the ongoing success of this exciting category in memory of Portelly, next year Pilosof plans to also involve leading fashion houses and the FTV fashion channel, providing photographers participating in the competition with an opportunity to accomplish worldwide exposure and fulfill their dreams.

Χωρις να ειμαι φωτογραφος , θεωρω οτι στο θεμα της επεξεργασιας εχουν δικιο (προσωπικη αποψη) . Καιρος ειναι να ξαναδουμε ποιοι ειναι στ'αληθεια οι καλοι φωτογραφοι . Ας μην παιζει ρολο το ποσο καλα εμαθαν ενα προγραμμα στον υπολογιστη τους . Η φωτογραφια γνησια , οπως τραβηχθηκε , ολοκληρη και οχι τμημα της , τα συκα συκα και η σκαφη σκαφη (τα μακρο , μακρο και τα ζουμ , ζουμ και παει λεγοντας) και , απειραχτη τελειως . Η τεχνη να φαινεται στο κλικ . Δεν ειμαι κατα της επεξεργασιας , αλλα ας θυμηθουμε λιγο τις μερες που ο φωτογραφος μετρουσε και οχι ο κομπιουτερας . Η φωτογραφια , οπως και ναχει (επεξεργασια ή μη ) ειναι τεχνη , ας μην το ξεχναμε .
Λεγοντας αυτο , δεν παυω να απολαμβανω και τις επεξεργασμενες φωτο και να συγχαιρω τους δημιουργους τους . Το αποτελεσμα σιγουρα μετραει !

Μιχάλη στους περισσότερους διαγωνισμούς είτε γίνονται λάιβ υπό μορφή αγώνα είτε γίνεται αξιολόγηση αρχείων που στέλνονται από τους δημιουργούς ηλεκτρονικά, οι φωτογραφίες δε μπορούν να έχουν επεξεργασία.

Προφανώς αρκεί και το έμπειρο μάτι για να καταλάβει κάποιος ποια φωτογραφία είναι αυθεντική και ποια πειραγμένη - ειδικά για τα μέλη επιτροπών - αν και εν κατακλείδι ζητείται και το αυθεντικό αρχείο λήψης

Αυτός φυσικά είναι και ο λόγος που υπάρχει και ειδική κατηγορία και επεξεργασμένες φωτογραφίες σε ορισμένους διαγωνισμούς ή ιστοσελίδες διαγωνισμών, οπότε οι διοργανωτές του The "Aphrodite" Underwater Photography Competition δε κάνουν κάτι το πρωτότυπο αλλά ακολουθούν τον γενικό κανόνα. (Σημ. : δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι τη διοργάνωση την έχουν "αναθέσει" στους πολύ έμπειρους Ισραηλινούς και ο κανονισμός είναι αυτός που ισχύει στους εκεί αγώνες χωρίς καμία αλλαγή )

Εγώ θαυμάζω την κίνηση του διαγωνισμού Υ/Β φωτογραφίας "Αφροδίτη" στη Κύπρο και μακάρι να διοργανώνονταν κάτι αντίστοιχο στα δικά μας τα υπέροχα νερά.

Ρίχνω συνεπώς την ιδέα για μια ενδεχομένως "Διασυλλογική Δράση" μεταξύ 1-2-3 ερασιτεχνικών καταδυτικών Σωματείων για κάτι αντίστοιχο.

Το να μιμηθούμε μια καλή ιδέα δεν είναι μεμπτό όπως λέει και το Εγγλέζικο "Imitation is the best form of flattery!".

Νομίζω ότι κάτι τέτοιο θα συμβάλλει στη διάδοση της αυτόνομης κατάδυσης και της υ/β φωτογραφίας, θα προβάλλει τα Σωματεία και τη χώρα μας σαν καταδυτικός προορισμό ενώ με προσεκτική επιλογή ενοτήτων και βραβείων, θα αναδειχθούν θέματα όπως οικολογικά, ναυαγιοκαταδυτικά, βιοποικιλότητας και ένα σωρό άλλα μαγικά που κρύβουν οι βυθοί μας.
